All Great Things Start Small.

Welcome to HIKITA-YA, a new website which promotes both traditional and modern Japanese arts and handcrafts. While some artists and craftspeople are already well established, some are yet to gain international attention.
　
In this first issue we introduce six great artists whom I, Hans Peter Kappeler, had the pleasure and honour to meet personally during my 47 years in Japan.
 　
To bring understanding and appreciation for cultural heritage and foster better international awareness, unique local art and crafts should be preserved for future generations.
 　
Over time, more and more information about artists and craftspeople, cultural events, performing arts, books, history, etc. will be added, so please subscribe to our newsletter to be informed when new entries appear.
